Michael Jordon [b. 1963] was the best player in the history of basketball. Jordan joined the Chicago Blues in 1984, and with in a short time became one of the most prominent stars in the best league in the world. His exceptional jumping ability earned him the nickname "Air Jordan." He has won numerous titles as a player: He won the NBA championship six times while wearing the Chicago Blues uniform, and twice the Olympic gold medal in the U. S. national team uniform. He won the title NBA MVP of the regular season twice, ten times member of the team of the season, nine times member of the defensive team of the season, 14 times participation in all-star games, three steals titles, six MVP of the finals, and defensive player of the year for 1988. In addition, Jordan holds the record for highest career regular season scoring average in the NBA. In 2015, in light of his exceptional achievements and contribution to basketball, Jordan joined the FIBA hall of fame, and in 2016 U. S. president Barack Obama gave him the presidential medal of freedom, the nation's highest honor.

Larry Bird [b. 1956] was a Boston Celtics player for 13 years until his retirement in 1992. In 1996 he was selected as one of the 50 greatest players in the history of the NBA. Over his magnificent career as a player, he led his team to three NBA championships in the 1980s, while earning numerous titles: MVP of the regular season three years in a row, twice MVP of the finals, once rookie of the year and once MVP of the all-star game. Over the course of his career, he was selected nine times in a row as a member of the team of the year, and selected to play in 12 all-star games. He also won the NBA trio competition in its first three years (1986-1988).

Earvin "Magic" Johnson junior [b. 1959] was a player for the Los Angeles Lakers between 1979 and 1991, partner in winning five NBA championships and four more appearances in the finals. He personally won three MVP titles for the regular season, and three MVP titles of the finals. Johnson was known to lead the Lakers' fast and spectacular style of play in the 1980s, known as "showtime." He was known for throwing from behind his back, the hook shot he developed which became known as "junior sky hook."

It is interesting to note that there was great rivalry between Johnson and Larry Bird on the courts. The two met at the finals of the college championships in 1979, and from then on the rivalry continued over the years as each led his team time and again to compete in the NBA finals. Johnson asserted that for him, the season consists of 80 regular games and two more meetings between the Lakers and Boston, while Bird testified that Johnson's statistical achievements were "the first thing he checked in the morning." The rivalry between the two is considered so significant because it represented many differences - the rivalry between the Lakers and Boston as clubs; the "showtime" style of the Lakers compared to Boston's physical "dirty work" style; and the black basketball players vs. the white. Despite their rivalry on the courts, the two testified that outside the court they were good friends.

Michael Jordan, Johnson and Bird are considered the players who increased the popularity of the NBA across the world in an unprecedented manner. After a decade in which the league suffered from a low level of interest and a decline in ratings, a new generation of fans sprouted following the arrivals of Jordan, Johnson and Bird to the league and due to the rivalry between them. There are those who claim that these three saved the NBA from bankruptcy.
