The Matson Photo Service - Photographs of Jerusalem - Second Series. 1930s

Eight photographs of central streets and sites in Jerusalem by Eric Matson, photographer of the American Colony. From a series of twelve photographs by the Matson Photo Service - second series. All the photos are stamped and numbered with the company's stamp. With the original envelope.

The photographs depict central streets and sites in Jerusalem: King George Street, Zion Square and Jaffa Street, Mamilla, the Central Post Office building, the Government of Palestine building, the museum, and more.

Eric Matson - senior photographer of the American Colony, joined the colony in 1896. He worked in the photography service from the age of twelve and gradually became a photographer in his own right. The Matson couple received the management of the photography service of the American Colony in 1934, and from then on stamped the photographs with the company stamp. The photos were sold in a store at the Post Hotel until 1946. In the wake of bloodshed between Palestinians and Jews, the family left the country and moved to California. Matson's photographs were characterized by their realism; they were photographed on site. His photos did not include staged scenes, which was common practice among others of his era.

Size: 7x9 cm. Original envelope: 10x12 cm.

Very fine condition.
