Autograph halachic responsa by R. Shloime Eiger on the topic of carrying on Shabbos to R. M. Yaffe, the Rav of Shmigel. The letter is in response to R. Yaffe’s comments on novella by R. Shloime’s father R. Akiva Eiger. R. Shlomo refers to his father as “Avi Yisroel” and capably defends R. Akiva Eiger’s Torah.
R. Shlomo Eiger (1787-1852), was born in Lissa and studied under his great father.
In 1831 he became Rav in Kalisch. In 1838, upon the passing of his father, R. Shlomo succeeded him as Rav of Posen. Renowned as tremendous Talmid Chochom, he was held in great esteem by his great father R. Akiva Eiger, and is mentioned countless times in Chidushei and Teshuvos R. Akiva Eiger.
R. Shlomo’s works include Shu”t R. Shlomo Eiger, Gilyon Maharsh”a (printed in almost every edition of Shas) and Sefer Ha’Ikrim.
