Rare documents of a Yeshiva students escape to Shanghai.
Extremely rare documents that belonged to a Yeshiva student from Telshe, which ensured him safe passage from war ravaged Lithuania to Shanghai.
One of the great miracles of the Holocaust was the well documented story of the escape of nearly the entire Mir Yeshiva as well as students of various other Yeshivas from Europe to Shanghai.
Lot includes; Document of Lithuanian citizenship issued by the Lithuanian government in Kovno; 2 documents granting safe travel out of Lithuania to Japan; A permit to stay in Shanghai issued by the Japanese government and 5 telegrams (via the Red Cross) received and sent by the student to his family, including one sent to the Westerbork concentration camp in Holland. One of the documents has on the reverse side handwritten Torah novella by the Yeshiva student, likely written during his travels. This illustrates the deep dedication the Yeshiva students had to Torah study even in the most trying of times.
Lot includes a total of 4 documents and 5 telegrams. Varying in size. Overall very fine condition.
Opening bid $300
