Collection of British and French war medals awarded to soldiers who served in the British and French armed forces in different wars, most are British medals awarded for service in Palestine and the Near East during World War I, during the Great Arab Revolt and in the 1940s.
1-15. Fifteen British war medals: • Medals awarded for service in World War I: two British War Medals; and a medal with the legend "The Great War for Civilisation 1914-1919". • 1914-15 Star medal • General Service Medal for service in Palestine during the Great Arab Revolt, with portrait of King George VI. The medal has a red and white cloth ribbon and a buckle with the inscription "Palestine 1936-39". • Three General Service medals for service in Palestine in the 1940s, with a portrait of King George VI. The medals have purple and green cloth ribbons and buckles with the inscription "Palestine 1945-1948" or "Palestine". • "General Service" medal for service in Palestine in the 1940s, with a portrait of King George VI. The medal has a red and white cloth ribbon and a buckle with the inscription "Palestine 1945-48". • Two small medals for service in Palestine in the 1940s (for non-formal occasions). With the inscription "Palestine" on the buckle. • Service Medal of the Order of Saint John. • Defence Medal. • Two General Service medals for service in the Near East, with portrait of Queen Elizabeth, cloth ribbons and buckles with the inscription "Near East".
16-17. Two French medals; one for service in World War I and the other from 1956 for service in the Middle East.
Enclosed are two General Service medals for those who served in Palestine in the 1940s (with a portrait of King George), one with no ribbon and the other with no ribbon and no buckle.
