Anthology of compositions in alphabetical order, concerning biographies of personalities, archaeology, geography and other biblical themes, by Augustin Calmet (1672-1757) – French Catholic theologian, historian and bible researcher. Calmet was a pioneering scholar in scientific bible studies; his work served other scholars through the 19th century.
The dictionary is accompanied by approx. 200 engraved plates – maps of Palestine and the surroundings, views and sites in the country (Jerusalem, Mount Carmel, Mount of Olives, Nazareth and more), biblical figures and scenes, Jewish customs and ceremonies (Jewish wedding, the Sabbath and more).

Tears, mostly small (a number of open tears). Piece of paper pasted facing the title page of Vol. I. Slightly loose endpapers. Some worming to endpapers. Leather bindings in fair condition, with stains, rubbings and tears. Fractures and tears along spines.
