Collection of Photographs of Ariel Sharon – Second Half of the 20th Century – Photographs from Lebanon on the Eve of the Sabra and Shatila Massacre
Approximately 80 photographs of Ariel Sharon by different photographers. Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Beirut and elsewhere, ca. late 1960s to early 2000s.
The collection includes a large assortment of photographs, most of them press photos documenting Sharon's military service, his personal life and his political roles. Including: • Three photographs documenting Ariel Sharon's meeting with the Chief of the General Staff Rafael Eitan and head of the Military Intelligence Directorate Yehoshua Sagi near the refugee camps Sabra and Shatila, on the eve of the massacre in the camps. Inscribed by hand on the back of the photographs: "On the roof of the command and control post, morning of September 15, 1982, photographer: Uri Dan". • Arik Sharon and General Avraham Yoffe, both in IDF uniforms, standing with their wives near the Western Wall, apparently shortly after its liberation. • Encounters with artists and intellectuals from Israel and abroad (Gila Almagor, Yigal Bashan, Kirk Douglas and others). • Encounters with politicians from Israel and abroad (Martin Indyk, Abu Mazzen, Yitzhak Shamir, Rafael Eitan and others). • And more.
Most of the photographs are press photos with ink stamps, information notes for the press, descriptions and handwritten instructions for printing.
Total of 80 photographs, size and condition vary. Good overall condition. Stains, tears and blemishes to a number of photographs.
