Collection of Photographs – IDF and Haganah Forces – War of Independence
Sixteen black and white photographs, documenting Haganah and IDF operations during Israel's War of Independence. Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv and other locations, 1948.
The photographs portray, among others, Haganah forces climbing the Kastel Hill after its occupation; fighters clearing an unexploded shell, near a hospital in Tel-Aviv; a boy and a girl guarding an agricultural path near Rehovot in the direction of Tel-Aviv; joint prayer by a tent camp; new team of Israeli air force preparing an aircraft for departure from a training camp in Italy to Tel-aviv; group of recruits in a shooting lesson; and more.
On the back of ten photographs appear ink-stamps of the information services, the intelligence and the Israeli censorship, and remnants of printed notes with information (apparently, these were used as propaganda material for Israel). On the back of five photographs appear ink-stamps of press agencies and information notes for the press.
Photographs: approx. 16.5X11 cm to 20.5X25 cm. One photograph appears in two copies. Condition varies. Good overall condition. Stains and blemishes to some. Inscriptions, markings, and pieces of paper pasted to the back of some photographs.
Provenance: Rimon Family Collection.
