14 photographs of Palestine and the vicinity by Frank Mason Good. [ca. 1860s-70s].
The photographs, from two different series, depict various views of Jerusalem, the Western Wall, Pool of Siloam, the Golden Gate, road to Jericho, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Mount Tabor, and more. Three photographs were taken in Egypt and Sinai.
The photographs are mounted on paper sheets, titled in print on the paper sheets (English) and accompanied by biblical verses. The photographs are not signed; most of them appear in the Frank Mason Good photograph collection in the Holy Land Digital Image Collection at the University of Pennsylvania Library.
Frank Mason Good (1839-1928), born in England, began his photographic career as an assistant to the photographer Francis Frith. He is known mainly for the photographs he took during his travels in the Middle East in the 1860s and 1870s.
14 photographs, mounted on paper sheets in two different sizes: eight photographs sized approx. 15.5X10 cm, on sheets sized 28.5X21 cm; six photographs – approx. 20.5X15.5 cm, on 38X30.5 cm sheets. Good condition. Stains and creases to paper sheets. Small tears at margins of some of the paper sheets.
