Torat Chacham. Salonika, [1848]. First Edition
Kabbalistic work, commentary on the words of Rabbi Chaim Vital by Rabbi Chaim di la Rosa. Salonica, 1848. First edition.
One of the fundamental works of the Rasha"sh's kabbalah. A prayer to be recited before nightfall appears on the last page. The author, Rabbi Chaim di la Rosa, was one of the primary disciples of Rabbi Shalom Sharabi, the Rasha"sh. He was one of the sages of Salonica, immigrated to Jerusalem and studied under his rabbi, the Rasha"sh.
Before his passing, he requested that his students carry out the four court-imposed executions on his corpse, as was the custom of kabbalists. His disciples dared not comply due to their respect for him, and conducted the funeral without carrying out this request. In the middle of the funeral, they were attacked by a group of Arabs who grabbed the body, cast it down in contempt and hurled stones at it. The disciples lamented the disgrace to their rabbi, until he appeared to one of them in a dream and said that he rejoiced in that his will had been fulfilled. He is buried in the kabbalists' section on the Mount of Olives.
