Gebetsbuch für israelitische Soldaten im Kriege. Edited by Max Grundwald.
Text in Hebrew and German. pp. 56.

Vienna: Isr. Kultusgemeinde, 1914.

At the beginning of the First World War, the Jewish population in the western part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire reacted with great enthusiasm, seeing an opportunity to prove their patriotism and so to counter anti-Semitic prejudice. During the war over 300,000 Jewish soldiers served in the Austro-Hungarian army, 25,000 of them as reserve officers.
