Second edition. German text with occasional Hebrew. Two parts in one. Double-page view of Jerusalem and double-page map of the Holy Land. Numerous woodcut illustrations by Virgil Solis embedded within the text. ff. (14), CXXV, (1, blank), (6), 177, (1), (12). Foxed and stained, previous owners marks. Contemporary blind-tooled vellum over thick wooden boards, expertly recased retaining original backstrip. Folio. Cf. Adams R-340; Tobler 209.

Adam Reissner (1496-1575) was a German mystic, hymn-writer and poet. His important study of Jerusalem paints a more theological picture of the Holy City relative to von Breydenbach’s Peregrination in Terram Sanctam.
