Marriage Contract on paper. Solemnizes the wedding of Yisrael ben Tzvi HaCohen to to Mindel (known as Nina) bath Samuel.
Printed, with manuscript additions, set within geometric border. Torn at folds, right margin chipped. Folio.

Gabersee (DP Camp, Germany): 17th Cheshvan, 1949.

Relatively little known, Gabersee was a DP camp in the Munich district, located near Wasserburg, in the American Zone of Occupation. It opened in March, 1946, under UNRRA auspices, and by the end of 1947 had a Jewish DP population of 2,000. After mass emigration in 1948, Gabersee became a camp for those, who due to illness or related problems, were not able to travel. The camp closed in June, 1950.
Needless to say, consecrating a wedding, most especially in a DP Camp in Germany, indicated the promise of new life in a post-Holocaust world.
