Yismach Moshe. Chassidic elucidations on the Torah, Vayikra-Devarim, by Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum of Ujhely. Lemberg, 1851-1861. Three sections. First edition.

Background: First edition of a noted chassidic work. The author, Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum of Shinova and Ujhely [1759-1841] was the noted disciple of the maggid of Kosnitz, who was also noted for his amazing genius. He was the first Admor to disseminate chassidism in Hungary. His progeny are the Admors of Sighet and Satmar. He was called the "Yismach Moshe," per the name of this work, though he authored many other works.
These are three sections that were printed ten years apart. Two sections, Bamdibar and Devarim, were printed with the approbations of Admor Chaim of Sanz and Admor Yekutiel Teitelbaum of Sighet, the author's grandson. These two sections feature title pages with borders that feature the verse: Tzaddik KaTamar Yifrach, since the name Teitelbaum is German-based and refers to a date tree. This also refers to the Chatam Sofer's recommendation that he was a "Tzaddik KaTamar."
Unique Features: The title page of Vayikra bears the signature of the small one Yisrael Zev son of M. Y. L. ztz"l Paneth of Téglás and his stamp. Rabbi Yisrael Zev Paneth was the grandson of Rabbi Yechezkel Paneth of Karlsburg and Rabbi Yehudah David Rottenberg. His sons-in-law were Rabbi Ben Zion Bloom of Berettyóújfalu, Rabbi Yisrael Moshe Mendel of Téglás and Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Stern of Temesvar. The title page of Bamidbar bears the owner's signature: Avraham son of Tzvi Hirsch z"tzl of Senta, Hungary (some of the author's progeny lived and were rabbis in Senta).
Condition: The books are not bound. Bamidbar and Devarim were printed together and prepared to be bound together. Aging stains. Fine-very fine condition.
