Letter from President of the United States - Franklin D. Roosevelt. White House, Washington 1939

Letter from Franklin D. Roosevelt to the executive chairman of the International Philatelists Convention regarding stamp collecting. The White House, Washington, 1939.

Specifications: [1] leaf, stationery. Printed letter with his signature. 17X22 cm.

Content: The president notes that "few hobbies make richer returns to their devotees than stamp collecting. And best of all, the longer one pursues it, the greater the enthusiasm becomes."  Along with his greetings to attendees of the International Philatelist Convention in Tulsa, the president expresses his belief that the convention will generate increased interest in stamp collecting.

It's rare to find a letter in which a president praises a hobby, and it attests to Roosevelt's personal fondness for this hobby.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) was the 32nd president of the United States (1933-1945) and one of the prominent world leaders of the 20th century. He was elected president four times in a row and served in this role for longer than any other president. During his service, he fought the Great Depression by increasing the involvement of the federal government in the economy. During the Second World War he led the United States to war against Japan and Nazi Germany.

Condition: Very fine. Fold marks.
