Collection of Letters from the Gaon Rabbi Shabbetai Atun

Nine letters in the handwriting and with the signature of the great gaon, Rabbi Shabbetai Atun.  [1967-1975].

Letters on personal topics. Especially noticeable among them is a letter on a postcard from 23/3/1969 which was sent during a study trip abroad, in which the gaon reveals what it is dear to his heart with respect to his decision to return to live in Jerusalem until the end of his life, despite the difficult tension between the Jews and Arabs in the city in those days: "A person like me, who was born in the Land and lived in it, and most of his acquaintances are Jews, would obviously want to continue living among them as before, assuming they continue to treat us as citizens with equal value and rights ... I believe there are good people who would like to continue assisting with bringing the two peoples together in brotherhood and friendship ... I'm returning to my homeland to live among my friends ... to eat hummus and felafel ... I miss it very much ..."

In the same postcard, he describes his bitter sorrow after his father passed away before he managed to see him, and his concern regarding his mother's poor health, that the same situation could repeat itself with her, so he is planning to return to Israel so that he will come in time to see her. With respect to his own health, he writes: 'Due to great pressure and reading for many hours each day, my eyes have become blurry ... I can't sit and plan as long as I think about my mother's condition ..." and other topics.

The gaon Rabbi Shabbetai Atun [1925-2006], son of the old city of Jerusalem, rosh yeshiva of Porat Yosef, was chosen by Rabbi Shach for the Shas movement's Council of Torah Sages from its outset, alongside Rabbi Shalom Cohen and Rabbi Shimon Baadani, he also served as rosh yeshiva of the Reishit Chochmah yeshiva in Jerusalem.

Nine letters in total. Various sizes and conditions, overall very fine condition.
