Collection of First Photographs of the Northern Sector at the End of the Six Day War
36 photographs of the Ramat HaGolan region ["the Syrian Sector"] at the end of the Six Day War. Fresh photographs taken at the end of the war, depicting the results of the battles and the condition of the terrain in various places in terms of the Syrian enemy, before it was restored by the Israeli forces.
Highlights: Photograph of an upside-down [made-in-Russia] Syrian tank, torched cars, bombed-out houses in the area of the Banias, basalt-stone offensive positions on the Syrian heights over the Sea of Galilee, shelters which served the Syrian army as weapons storage and attack positions, various photographs from Kuneitra, enemy ammunition next to the 'Nimrod' crusader's fortress, the 'Bnot Yaakov' bridge after its access was opened, fortified positions and dugouts which had served the Syrian army, and more.
The photographs were taken by a family who arrived in the area about a month after the war, before it was dealt with in terms of cleanup and restoration by Israel. All the photographs are described and dated by hand on the reverse. Identical size: 10x8 cm. Very fine condition.
At the end of the war, the IDF captured most of the Golan from the Syrians. 115,000 of the Golan's residents who fled with the Syrian army became refugees - 17,000 from the city of Kuneitra, which was abandoned and destroyed. In this area, the Syrians had 1000 casualties and 350 Syrian prisoners.
