"Dachlil" - A Children's Newspaper - Two Issues : 2 and 4

Dachlil, a weekly newspaper for children [appeared every Thursday], edited by Emmanuel Ullsbanger. Jerusalem, June 6, 1940, second and fourth issue [a total of four issues were printed].

Dachlil was the second attempt made in the 1940's to publish a children's newspaper with a clear humorous nature. After an unsuccessful attempt to publish a children's newspaper named 'Ach Sameach' [only two issues were published], the humorous weekly newspaper before us appeared in Jerusalem. The goal was "To expand our company to a large company which includes all children in Israel". In "Dachlil" were cartoons, amusing dialogues of the "scarecrows" Sha and Ga, a serial cartoon in a comic book style name "The Travels of Gad and Yossi" and a serialized adventure story about Ruth and Yael the detectives. This was the first time that dialogue appeared in the form of bubbles from the characters' mouths, next to subtitles printed under the illustrations.

In the booklet before us, which was the fourth and last one published, the editor writes that "It is not pleasant to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately that is what I must do this time: Dachlil will not be published next week and you will have to wait two whole weeks for the next issue. After such a long break you will enjoy the issue even more". However, "the next issue" was never published. This issue marked the end of the newspaper.

8 pages, 31 cm. Folded [not cut] pages. Very fine condition.
