A.    A series of very important letters that were sent by the leaders of Agudat Yisrael in the Land of Israel and abroad to Rabbi Yosef Chaim Sonnenfeld. Most of them are about the controversy related to the establishment of the Chief Rabbinate. The letters before us deal with solutions to the dispute between Rabbi Sonnenfeld and hi sfollowers and Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook and his followers.
Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Ya'akov Rosenheim, one of the founders of Agudat Yisrael and its first leader to Rabbi Sonnenfeld. Frankfurt, 1900. A long letter. Extremely rare!
Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Moshe Blau, the secretary of the Jerusalemite branch of Agudat Yisrael. "The Honorable Rabbi and Av Beit Din here in the Holy City. His honor is asked to be present at the train station to receive the Rebbes from Poland…" The Rebbes were headed by the Rebbe of Gur and one of the goals of their visit to the Land of Israel was to reconcile Rabbi Sonnenfeld and his followers with Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook and his followers. The 2nd of Nissan 1921. The letter is written on the official stationery of Agudat Yisrael of Jerusalem. Condition: Good.
Letter by Rabbi Wolf Pappenheim and Rabbi Pinchas Cohen, leaders of Agudat Yisrael abroad, to Rabbi Sonnenfeld. The letter is about the visit of the Rebbe of Gur, author of 'Imrei Emet' in Jerusalem in order to reconcile Rabbi Sonnenfeld and his followers with Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook and his followers. A typewritten letter on the official stationery of Agudat Yisrael. Signatures of the two rabbis on behalf of the executive committee of Agudat Yisrael. Vienna, the 13th of Kislev 1923. Condition: Good. Cut on the side with no damage to text.
Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Pappenheim (1850-1938) was a disciple of the 'Ketav Sofer'. served as the leader of the Haredi community of Vienna and was one of the founders of Agudat Yisrael.
Historical letter by Rabbi Wolf Pappenheim and Rabbi Pinchas Cohen, leaders of Agudat Yisrael abroad, to Rabbi Sonnenfeld and Rabbi Diskin in Jerusalem. Vienna, 1924. "According to the decision at the congress of Agudat Yisrael according to which we should try and reconcile the Chief Rabbinate with the Ashkenazic committee of Jerusalem and put an end to the contempt of both parties … we have taken advantage of the trip of the Rebbe of Gur to our Holy Land …". Typewritten on the official stationery of Agudat Yisrael of Vienna with the signatures of the two rabbis. Condition: Good. Slight wear.
Letter by Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Ehrman and Rabbi Wolf Pappenheim, signed by them, to Rabbi Sonnenfeld about the plan of Pinchas Rothenberg "to build power stations on the fields of our Holy Land and he has suggested that the wealthy members of Agudat Yisrael support his enterprises". The writers note that they had stipulated that the "religious side" must be kept in order for them to accept Rothenberg's request and they ask for Rabbi Sonnefeld's approval. Vienna, 1924. Condition: Good. Slight wear.
Letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Wolf Pappenheim to Rabbi Sonnenfeld about a rumor spread by Mr. Shlomo Guggenheim about Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook. Vienna, Iyar, 1927. On Rabbi Pappenheim' sofficial stationery. Condition: Good.
