Early Letter by Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Ha'Levi Herzog and His Father-in-Law Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchak Hillman – London, 1926
A leaf with two handwritten letters:
A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchak Hillman.
A letter by his son-in-law Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Ha'Levi Herzog, handwritten and signed byhim ("Yitzchak Isaac Ha'Levi called Dr. Herzog")
The two letters are a recommendation for Reb Shimon Steinberg. London 1926.
Letters by these rabbis from such an early period – before their immigration to the Land of Israel – are extremely rare! All the more so when they appear on one leaf!
Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Ha'Levi Herzog served those days as the Chief Rabbi of Ireland. As the Chief Rabbi, he succeeded in preventing the announcement that Jewish Shechita is illegal. Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook persuaded him to immigrate to the Land of Israel. Indeed, after Rabbi Kook's death in 1937, Rabbi Herzog was chosen to replace him as the Chief Rabbi of the Land of Israel.
Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchak Hillman (1868-1953) Rosh Av Beit Din of London and author of the series of books 'Or Ha'Yashar'. After his immigration to the Land of Israel in 1934, he founded in Jerusalem the Ohel Torah Yeshiva which served as a Kollel for well-known Torah scholars such as Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, Rabbi Shmuel Ha'Levi Wosner and more.
Size: 13x18 cm.
Condition: Fair. Wear and tear. Gluing. With almost no omission of the handwritten text.
