On the title page, a handwritten inscription: "Belongs to …. Rabbi Ya'akov Katz Av Beit Din and Ram of the community of Fra[nkfurt]".
An additional inscription: "Belongs to … Rabbi Ze'ev Wolf" – the son of the "Shav Ya'akov".
A third inscription: "Belongs to … Shmuel Cohen the son of Ze'ev Wolf Katz".
On the reverse side of the title page, many ownership inscriptions by Rabbi Shmuel Katz, the son of the Dayan Rabbi Wolf.
A later inscription by Chaim Ben Gershon who "studies with the excellent Dayan Rabbi Wolf… Iyar 1748[?]".

On leaves 7 and 8, there are scholarly handwritten glosses. it is most likely that they were handwritten by the "Shav Ya'akov".
Rabbi Ya'akov Ha'Cohen Poppers (1670-1740) was one of the geniuses of his generation, Av Beit Din of Frankfurt am Mein and author of "Shav Ya'akov". He was born in Prague and studied in its yeshivas. When he was 27 years old, he was appointed Av Beit Din of Koblenz. In 1718, he moved to Frankfurt am Mein and was appointed by Rabbi Shmuel Schotten (the Maharsheshach) to replace Rabbi Avraham Brody as the rabbi of the city and as head of yeshiva.
Condition: Fair-Good. Impressive, original leather binding, with remnants of buckles. The front and back bindings are detached. Missing spine. The title page and first leaves are worn, with certain omission of text. Time stains.
