"Ezrat Ha'Sofer" Chumashim in One Volume – Amsterdam, 1767-1768 – First Edition – with "Luchot Ha'Ibur" (Tables of Leap Years)
Before us is a special, important edition of the Pentateuch, edited by Rabbi Yehuda Pisa. An extremely rare format with all the Chumashim printed in one volume.
Sefer Ezrat Ha'Sofer, "Tikkun Sofrim" [the Pentateuch with the Haftarot]. With the "Or Torah" glosses by Rabbi Menachem de Lonzano. Two title pages. The first one, copper-etched.
At the beginning of the volume, two approbations by the rabbis of Amsterdam and after them, a preface by Rabbi Yehuda Pisa the editor and proofreader of the edition.
Then the composition 'Meir Nativ' was printed, on holy and secular names of the Torah by Rabbi Yehuda Pisa. Approbations and poems praising the book and its editor. Then there is the second, detailed, title page with the year of printing: 5727 [1767].
The edition was intended for scribes. 42 lines on two pages side-by-side. The first line of each two pages begins with the Hebrew letter "Vav". In two places, due to the size of the text, several letters are missing – thus originally.
In the edition before us, the verses are not vowelized. That year, an additional vowelized edition was published.
Some of the copies of the book that are known today include five separate volumes. However, before us is an edition that contains the five Chumashim all in one volume! Thus for example, the book of Shemot begins on the same page that the book of Bereshit ends.
[21], 264 [1] pp.
At the end of the volume, the Haftarot were printed (vowelized) Similar to the five-volumes edition, each section has its own title page (with the year noted on it: 528 [1768]) and independent pagination.
The last leaves, with a special title page: "Luchot Ha'Ibur" (The Tables of Leap Years)by Rabbi Yehuda Pisa. Amsterdam 1769. [7] pp.
Condition: Good. Wear. Stains. Nice new binding with a golden impression on the spine. A single leaf is missing. Tears with slight omissions in single leaves.
