The Rebbe Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heshil Twersky of Machnovka (1895-1988) became Rebbe subsequent to an order by his uncle the Rebbe Rabbi David of Skvira. In 1932, he moved to Moscow in order to revive Judaism there. The authorities objected to his actions and exiled him to Siberia. After his release, he was given the opportunity to leave the USSR; yet, he refused explaining he needed to take care of the spiritual situation of the USSR Jews. In 1965, he immigrated to the land of Israel and reestablished his Hassidic court in Bnei Berak.
