Na Nach Nachman Me'Uman: the Holy "Petek" (Note) Handwritten by "Ba'al Ha'Petek" Rabbi Yisrael Dov Odesser – Segulah for Protection and Salvation – the Only Copy in the World
Segulah for salvation: the well-known "Pitka" (note) handwritten by the person who received and revelaed it, Rabbi Yisrael Dov Odesser, with the Kabbalistic formula: "Na Nach Nachman Me'Uman".
The original note, which was discovered in 1922, does not exist (it was burned by an anonymous person in 2001). Before us is an original copying of the "Pitka" handwritten by Rabbi Yisrael Dov Odesser.
To the best of our knowledge, this is the only copying of the "Pitka" by Rabbi Yisrael Dov Odesser. Thus, it is most likely, the only copy in the world of the "Pitka" handwritten by him!
Ba'al Ha'Petek – Rabbi Yisrael Dov Odesser
Rabbi Yisreal Dov Odesser was one of the oldest Breslov Hassidim of the previous generation and the one who taught the doctrine of Rabbi Nachman and his disciple Rabbi Natan to our generation. He not only owned the original manuscripts but knew the oral traditions of Hassidism. He learned Rabbi Nachman's doctrine from Rabbi Yisrael Kardoner, who was a leading disciple of Rabbi Moshe Breslover, the disciple of Rabbi Natan.
Rabbi Yisrael Dov was the perfect image of the true Breslov Hassid. When Zalman Shazar (the future President of the State of Israel, who then served as the Minister of Education) was once asked why he chose Rabbi Odesser as his teacher, he would say: "I searched for a figure of a true Hassid and found rabbi Yisrael".
His outwards appearance was of a simple man. Only those who knew him knew of his Torah greatness. His modesty and humility were unprecedented.
Rabbi Yisrael was of Divine Spirit. He often talked about reincarnation and other lofty matters. His Hassidim recall the many miracles he did, all quietly and modestly.
The discovery of the "Petek" (note)
When he was 33 years old, Rabbi Odesser was overcome with weakness and hunger on the Fast of the 17th of Tammuz. He decided to eat. But immediately after eating, he felt great sorrow at having succumbed to his own physical temptations. When his friends saw his depression, they mocked him: "This is the end of all the Breslovs". Rabbi Yisrael feared he was causing Chilul Hashem and grew even sadder.
After six continuous days of sorrow, recalled later Rabbi Yisrael: "I prayed to God: Master of the Universe, see my situation, I want to repent. Heal me and pull me out of this sorrow. Then a powerful thought came to me, saying: "Go into your room, go to your bookcase and randomly open a book. There you will find medicine for your soul".
Rabbi Yisrael obeyed the inner voice, went to the bookcase, and randomly opened the book "Likutei Halachot". In the book was an ancient piece of paper addressed to "My precious student" and signed Na Nach Nachman Me'Uman.
It is easy to imagine Rabbi Yisrael's great wonder when he read the content of the piece of paper: "I enjoyed your work very much". It was obvious that this piece of paper, to which his inner voice had led him, was not man-made.
Rabbi Odesser believed the letter to be a message of consolation, directly from Rebbe Nachman to himself here on earth. Since his name did not appear in the note as the recipient, Rabbi Odesser said that this was reason for every person to consider the note addressed to himself personally.
Until his last day, Rabbi Yisrael would praise the virtue of the Petek saying that it has the power to raise man from absolute depths to absolute heights. He also said that mentioning the Kabbalistic formula of "Na Nach Nachma Nachman Me'Uman" is a Segulah for protection and salvation.
Rabbi Yisrael would also tell many miraculous stories about people who had a copying or photocopy of the Holy Petek. Indeed, many people still indicate the miracles and salvations that occurred due to the merit of the above Holy Petek.
