Historical Discovery: the Simanim of the Seder in Aramaic – Yemen, the 17th Century
Handwritten Passover Haggadah. Yemen, the 17th century (or early 18th century). Levant version.
With instructions in Judeo-Arabic and commentary by Rabbi Yitzchak Venah. Upper vowelization.
Important discovery
On leaf [6] an unknown Aramaic version of the Simanim of the Seder (Kadesh, U'Rechtatz etc.) were written. A total of 15 vowelized Simanim.
This is an important discovery of an early version of the Simanim which has been unknown until now. It is common knowledge that the Yemenites succeeded in preserving ancient customs that have not been preserved by other Jewish communities.
One leaf at the end of the Haggadah is most likely missing.
36 leaves. 14.5cm.
Condition: Good-Reasonable. Wear and tear and stains, with no omission of text.
