In 1866 Chief Rabbi Nathan Adler proposed a union of the five largest Ashkenazic Synagogues in London. This developed into the “United Synagogue” which was officially recognized by Parliament in 1870. This book published in 1881 contains over 200 Bye Laws of the United Synagogue as well as lengthy list of all the Synagogue directors.
