Historical letter and telegram sent by the representatives of the Relief Committee for Refugee Rabbis in Jerusalem to the Agudas HaRabanim of New York, asking them to intervene with “The Joint” not to stop their much needed support. Includes a telegram sent by R. Dov Beirish Wiedenfeld (Tchbeiner Rav), R. Akiva Sofer (Da’as Sofer) and Rav Hoffman of Frankfurt, and a two-page typewritten letter signed by three members of the committee: R. Shmuel Kipniss, R. Shlomo Yosef Zevin, and R. Yosef Naftali Stern.
In the aftermath of the Holocaust in addition to hundreds of thousands of refugees who came to Erets Yisroel there were hundreds of distinguished Rabbonim, great Talmidei Chachomim who had served as Rabbonim in Europe, who found themselves in Erets Yisroel without rabbinical positions and a livelihood. A committee was set up to address this problem under the leadership of Chief Rabbi Herzog, R. Akiva Sofer (Da’as Sofer( and R. Dov Beirish Weidenfeld (Tchbeiner Rav). Although initially the Joint responded generously, by 1955 they wanted to begin reducing their support.
23 by 18 cm, 28 by 23 cm. Fine condition.
