Letter from Rabbi Mordechai Aryeh Rabinowitz - First Rabbi of Bnei Brak
Letter written and signed by Rabbi Aryeh Mordechai Rabinowitz, addressed to Reb Chaim Perl.
After thanking the addressee for a package that he sent, Rabbi Rabinowitz adds warm words: "Hash-m should help that there should be peace and quiet in our holy land and we should merit to see the consolation of Zion and Jerusalem in the merit of the Torah and those who study it."
Rabbi Aryeh Mordechai Rabinowitz [1885-1955] was a descendant of the "Holy Jew of Peshischa," through the Parysow dynasty. At the young age of 16, he was appointed to the rabbinate in Kossov, Poland. In 1905, during the Polish-Soviet Wars, he fled to Brisk where he stayed for about a year, studying with Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik. In 1913, he was appointed rabbi of Karov. In 1924, he was one of the first group of immigrants who established the Bnei Brak settlement and was designated as its rabbi immediately upon his arrival. [He served in this role in 1924-1927]. In 1929, he moved to the United States for a short time, and when he returned to Palestine, he settled in the Batei Varsha neighborhood of Jerusalem. His novellae were published in the Klil Tichelet and he printed the Keter HaYehudi with Torah from his grandfather, the "Holy Jew."
