Rabbi Yechiel Yehoshua Rabinowitz [1900-1982], the 'Chelkat Yehoshua', was one of the foremost disciples of Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter of Gur. At the age of 22 he came to the city of Szydłowiec in order to succeed his father as leader of the Biala chassidut. He established a yeshiva in the city where hundreds of boys learned, and stabilized the chassidut until the outbreak of the Holocaust. After the Nazis entered Szydłowiec the Rebbe escaped to Poland, and was later sent to Siberia. As there was no mikveh in Siberia he used to make holes in the thick layer of ice which covered the rivers in order to immerse himself in the river's water. He immigrated to Israel in 1947 and settled in Tel Aviv, in 1949 he moved to Jerusalem, where he established his court. His book 'Chelkat Yehoshua' is considered one of the basic books of the Biala chassidut. After his death in 1982, his son was appointed as his successor.
