A Rare Poster - Words of Encouragement from the Rebbe Rabbi Shmuel Zvi Danziger to the Members of His Congregation Following a Fire Which Broke Out in the Community. Aleksander, Early 20th Century

'To our dear and beloved followers' - a poster of encouragement from the Rebbe of Aleksander to the members of his community following a tragic fire which broke out in the community. Aleksandrow, early 20th century. Yiddish. The poster is signed in print with the Rebbe's signature and the place "Here, Aleksandrow".

The poster contains words of encouragement, primarily regarding modesty and family purity, after which the Rebbe writes several paragraphs about things which should be strengthened - modesty, tztizit and tefillin, setting aside time to study Torah, kosher food, keeping Shabbat, and blesses the readers with many blessings. His printed signature appears in the poster's margin.

Rare. Does not appear in the ephemera collection in the National Library.

The Rebbe Rabbi Shmuel Zvi Danziger [1860-1923] - the third Rebbe of the Aleksander dynasty, one of the foremost Polish rebbes of his time, the leader of tens of thousands of disciples, one of the largest chassidic groups before the Holocaust. Was known for his merciful leadership, his love for his fellow Jews and his humility. His tens of thousands of followers were scattered throughout Poland. He founded the 'Beit Yisrael' yeshiva, named after his brother, in Aleksandrow. His teachings were printed in the book "Tiferet Shmuel" on the Torah and the festivals.
