Poster Issued by the Council of the Eidah HaCharedit Opposing Increased Zionist Activities Following the Publication of the White Paper. Jerusalem, 1939

Poster addressing the Charedi community published just before the implementation of the White Paper, trying to turn public opinion to favor the British regulations and oppose Zionist nationalism. The notice was based on the assumption that after the publication of this law that limited Jewish settlement in certain sections of Palestine "the "chofshim" [irreligious] are planning new destructive activities that are liable to add flame to the fire and increase the danger to the foundations of the yishuv that has been suffering from this for a number of years." Jerusalem, 1939.

The writers worried that the publication of the "White Paper" that would limit the Jewish areas in Palestine would trigger the Zionists to protest and conquest.  This would then incite the Arabs and lead to more bloodshed in the country: "In face of the new tragedy that will soon take place by their hands for the Jewish yishuv, in whose wake there is a danger of increased shedding of Jewish blood, caused by people who lack fear of G-d and responsibility." The council appeals for support for Britain which is a "kingdom of mercy" in relation to the Jewish question, and in either case "the Jewish Nation is a sheep amongst seventy wolves, and without the mercy of Hash-m, we will not survive amongst the nations." The poster begs "do not walk blindly after the ones who err, who seduce the nation to oppose the laws of the [British] government with force."

The publication of the White Paper and the bylaws that accompanied it were met with anger and protest in the yishuv and the Zionist movement. A general strike in the entire country and large cities, along with protests and parades, were held and the tensions between Jews and Arabs increased.
