Stamps of "Harugei Malchut B'Dor HaTekuma," Complete Sheet, 1982

Complete sheet of stamps "Harugei Malchut B'Dor HaTekuma," containing the entire series of 58 stamps, of 20 individuals [several stamps of each 'martyr']. The stamps are not canceled.

Featured among the Harugei Malchut [martyrs]: Ze'ev Jacobtinsky [12 stamps from different periods of his life];  Naaman Belkind; Shlomo Ben Yosef; Channah Szenes; Moshe Barazani; Dr. Moshe Marzouk; and Eli Cohen, among others. The end of the album displays the first stamp issued in memory of the Harugei Malchut, designed by Y. Tzim, 1968.

The decision to issue a stamp sheet bearing the portraits of the 20 martyrs was accepted by the Ministerial Committee of Ceremonies and Symbols on 9.2.1982.  This was the first time that the Philatelic Service issued a sheet containing 20 different stamps. Quoting the words of the Philatelic Service in the booklet's summery: "As a natural consequence and due to the circumstances of their lives and deaths, in most cases there were not many photographs of the 'harugei malchut' ... pictures of the 'harugei malchut' are painted portraits ..."

The portraits were designed by artist Ruth Beckman of Jerusalem. The sheet was compiled by the designer Aryeh Glazer. Alongside the stamps, in the designated pocket, is a short description of the life and circumstances of death of the subject featured on the stamp.

Booklet: 20x20 cm. The stamps and the booklet are in new condition except for slight scratches on binding.
