The community had its own institutions, a synagogue and a cemetery (1893), a burial society, a women's association, and other cultural and welfare institutions.
Rabbi Dr. Adolf [Avraham] Altman (1879-1944) was rabbi of the Salzburg community from 1907 to 1914, and from 1919 to 1920, during World War I (1914-1918), served as a military chaplain on the southern front. His book "History of the Jews in Salzburg.
He perished in the Auschwitz death camp.
