"Memorial Prayer for the Great Day of Fast" - a Special Prayer Written for "Hundreds of Thousands of Israel" who Perished at the Beginning of the Terrible Holocaust - Jerusalem, 1942 - a Historical Item, Extremely Rare!
A large notice with a printed "memorial prayer for the great day of fast, Wednesday the 24 of Kislev 1942", subsequent to the first news about the terrible Holocaust in Europe. Solomon printing press.
An extremely rare notice! Is not listed by the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book and does not appear in libraries in Israel, including the National Library! A touching item of historical significance!
The version of the prayer was written by the Chief Rabbi, rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Ha'Levi Herzog and the Rishon Le'Zion Rabbi Ben Zion Meir Chai Uziel. The copy before us contains a handwritten correction (the leaf was kept in the archive of Rabbi Shimshon Polonsky of Teplyk, one of the Dayanim of Jerusalem and the rabbi of the 'Beit Yisrael' neighborhood).
The prayer refers to the "hundreds of thousands" of Jews who had perished, the true number of millions being still unknown at the time.
The prayer was held at the synagogue of Churvat Rabbi Yehuda Ha'Chassid of Jerusalem with the participation of the Rebbe of Gur author of 'Imrei Emet'. There is a well-known picture that was taken during the event depicting the Rebbe standing beside the Holy Ark and reading a prayer (maybe the one before us).
From the prayer:
"El Maleh rachamim, the judge of widows and father of orphans, please do not be silent and restrained when the blood of Israel is shed like water. Offer rest on the wings of the divine Spirit … to the souls of hundreds of thousands of Israel, men and women, boys and girls, who were killed and slaughtered, drowned and strangled in the countries: Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, occupied Russia, Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Greece, Holland, Belgium, Norway, France and the other occupied countries. They are all holy and pure…"
24x30 cm.
Condition: Good. Tears (especially outside the frame). Stains and wear. Folding marks.
