The writer of the long Hassidic preface at the beginning of the volume is Rabbi Yosef landau who was Av Beit Din of Jassy and authored the 'Birkat Yosef' Responsa and other books. His history was written in the book 'Toldot Yosef' which was printed in Berditchev in 1908. The book refers to his Hassidic genealogy "Rabbi Yosef landau … is the son of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Av Beit Din of Bahslov (Russia) the son of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch the son of the holy, divine rabbi, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Ber". Rabbi Menachem Mendel Ber was a disciple of the Ba'al Shem Tov.
