Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah - Lemberg, 1865 - the Copy of the Rebbe Rabbi Zeide Meir Shmelner Av Beit Din of Buchan with Glosses in His Handwriting - Additional Kabbalistic Glosses by an Additional Genius
The book contains nine scholarly glosses handwritten by the Rebbe Rabbi Zeide Meir Shmelner, Av Beit Din of Buchan, the grandson of Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Komarno. Six of the glosses are signed by him (for example, on leaf 7; there he also refers to additional manuscripts he wrote!). On leaf 70, he signed: "By the author of many compositions".
There are also dozens of scholarly by an additional writer (on the binding of the book there is an impression of the name: "Rabbi Aharon Guttman"). Some of these glosses are Kabbalistic commentary on the Shulchan Aruch (for example, on leaf 6 and leaf 74). Many of the glosses refer to the Chatam Sofer. The writer's genius and knowledge are obvious. The book had most likely belonged to him before it was passed on to the Rebbe.
The Rebbe Rabbi Zeide Meir Shmelner was the son of Rabbi Aharon Shmelner (Otzar Ha'rabbanim 1742). He was married to the granddaughter of Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Komarno.
The Rebbe served as the rabbi of Buchan during the years 1921-1925. In 1925, he travelled to the USA and arrived in New York as the "Chief Rabbi of Romania". There he announced his plans for increasing peace in the world. He remained in New York, becoming a Rebbe. He was renowned as a wonder-worker and received money from many people, which he gave to the poor and to Torah institutions. He also invested a lot of money in dubious business. Consequently, in 1936 he got in trouble with the law and was sentenced to prison. He died in 1963. Enclosed is material about him.
