The Rebbe Rabbi Yechezkiya Fisch of Mátészalka (1885-1943), the son of the Rebbe Rabbi Aharon Yesha'ayahu Fisch of Hadhas, author of "Kedushat Aharon". He replaced his father as Rebbe in 1928 and founded an important yeshiva in the town. In 1943, he was sent to Auschwitz together with the members of his community, consoling them all the way to the camp to lovingly sanctify God's name. Before entering the gas chambers, he recited the confession enthusiastically. After the Holocaust, the Hassidism was reestablished and today, his son's son-in-law, Rabbi Avraham Shpitzer serves as the Rebbe of Mátészalka in Jerusalem.
