Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv opens with thoughts on the topic of the reason for remembering Amalek and the war against them - because Amalek intended to uproot Torah from the outset, via Esav who did everything to prevent Yaakov becoming [spiritually] great, as 'Amalek' attacked those who lagged - the ones the cloud spit out, due to their inability to harm spiritual strength, so too in the generation of Mordechai, the people who 'worshipped idols' and dropped in spirituality, brought upon themselves the decrees of Haman who sought to kill them, but he was unable to harm Mordechai due to Mordechai's stubborn hold on the Torah and his merit helped protect everybody, and this is the case in all generations. Powers of good and powers of evil in the generation, and there is no generation without the aspect of Moshe Rabbeinu, the topic 'and make a sanctuary for me and I will dwell in them' - that by way of ascent to the holy Temple, holiness spreads outwards, consecration of the Temple on the Sukkot festival, the connection between the kruvim [cherubs] in the Temple and the kruvim and the flashing turning sword east of the garden of Eden, and other topics.

Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv [1910 -2012], was born in Shavel, Lithuania as an only son after 17 years of marriage. In 1934, he immigrated to Israel with his family who settled in the Meah Shearim neighborhood in Jerusalem. Served as dayan in the Great Rabbinical Court, known primarily for his wondrous diligence all his life, from the moment he was able. Eventually became the greatest adjudicator of halacha of the generation, and the leader of the generation.
