Kanah Avraham. Polemic. Furth, 1738. First Edition

Laws of Issur V'Heter by Rabbi Avraham son of Rabbi Daniel [Tirini] of Opoṭshni. Furth 1738. First edition.

The author writes on the title page that he wrote the book as he saw and heard that there are those who walk in darkness and do not know what is permitted and what is forbidden to eat. The book was printed with no approbations, and in the introduction the author writes a long list of books from which he compiled his book and explains that he therefore has no need for approbations.

Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Levin strongly opposed the book, and wrote that his father Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Amsterdam, one of the greatest rabbis in Ashkenaz, the son-in-law of the Chacham Tzvi, tested the author and discovered that he knew nothing (!), and he convened a Beit Din about this and it is known that he copied the words with errors. Therefore it was declared that all of the books should be confiscated [material is enclosed].

24 leaves, 20 cm.

Condition: Fine except for a blemish on the title page. Aging stains. Old simple binding.
