A special collection of letters handwritten by the most prominent rabbis of Lithuania. The handwriting of some of them has never been seen in auctions. Some of the rabbis perished during the Holocaust. These are dear remnants of a generation of geniuses.
The letters and documents contain important information about the history of Lithuanian Jewry!
The letters were sent to Rabbi Aharon Milevsky, Gaon Av Beit Din of Alytus.
A. Two letters handwritten and signed by Rabbi Yochanan Zarchi (Zopowitz), a Lithuanian rabbi and the secretary of the Union of Rabbis of Lithuania. After his immigration to the Land of Israel, he served as the rabbi of the Knesset Yisrael community in Tiberius. The letter was written in 1932, when he was the rabbi of Radvilsky. Rare! Written on a postcard.
In one of the letters, Rabbi Zopowitz writes: "Yesterday I met with the honorable genoius … out teacher and rabbi, Rabbi Kahneman Shalita Av Beit Din and Ram of Ponevezh and he told me he was going to Alytus on Sabbath for raising funds for the holy Yeshiva … and he requests to encourage the members of his community to contribute generously to the great yeshiva of Ponevezh".
B. A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Shalom Yitzchak Shtzupak Av Beit Din of Seirijai (Lithuania). The 23rd of Kislev 1933. About "the celebration of the dedication of the great Beit Midrash … with the participation of the well-known prayer leader Friedlander of Kovno…" The letter is also signed by the Gabai of the new Beit Midrash, Shmuel Farbstein. On the rabbi's official stationery.
C. A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Eliyahu Resnik, Av Beit Din of Zarasai, who perished in the Holocaust. 1931. Written on a postcard.
D. A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi David Nachman Kulidtzki Av Beit Din of Alytus. The eve of Rosh Ha'Shana 1925. Five years later, the addressee, Rabbi Milevsky, married Rabbi Kulitzki's daughter. When the letter was written, Rabbi Milevsky studied at the Hebron Yeshiva, which was founded in those days by a group of students of the Slabodka Yeshiva. The letter is written on a postcard.
E. A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Dobver Bergman, Av Beit Din of Stoklishok, author of the book "Dovev Meisharim", who perished in the Holocaust. His stamp. 1935.
F. A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Avraham Srebrnik. 1939. On official stationery.
G. A document of the Beit Din of Kovno handwritten by Rabbi Shmuel Rodna, Moreh Tzedek in Kovno. His signature and the signatures of two additional Morei Tzedek in the city. Official stamp. 1933.
H. A printed leaf, "Purim Tava!" with a call to donate to the 'Tzedaka Gedola' charity fund in Alytus. A stamp of the charity fund. Extremely rare! Hebrew and Yiddish.
I. An interesting letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Alexander Zusha Elishavitz in which he asks Rabbi Milevsky to express his opinion about his book. 1934. Written on a postcard.
J. A letter handwritten and signed by Rabbi Avraham Zvi. Lazdijai West.
Added are six additional important letters and documents received by Rabbi Milevsky, which were written at the eve of the Holocaust and are signed by important Lithuanian rabbis. Hebrew and additional languages.
