A Letter of Support Handwritten by the Rebbe of Schotz, His Daughter and His Son – 1952
A letter handwritten and signed by the Rebbe Rabbi Shalom Moskowitz of Schotz to his grandson, the young student, Rabbi Chacham Zvi Halberstam. Among others, the Rebbe guides him "to persist and not be idle with politics and idle actions and words …" written on a postcard. Eight handwritten lines. On the margins, his signature: "Chaim Shalom". London, 1952.
After the words of the Rebbe, his son, Rabbi Yisrael Ya'akov (died in 1954), added several handwritten lines.
On the reverse side of the postcard, a personal touching letter handwritten by the Rebbe's daughter, the Rebbetzen Mrs. Miriam (the wife of the Rebbe rabbi Yoel Moskowitz of Schotz-Montreal-Jerusalem). Among others, she writes: "the grandfather Shalita did not write to you since he was in Yarmouth to change the atmosphere…"
The Rebbe Rabbi Shalom of Schotz (1878-1958), a kabbalist and one of the most prominent Rebbes of his generation, served as a rabbi in Schotz since 1903 and was the teacher of Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin, the founder of the "Daf Yomi"/ since 1927, he served as a Rebbe in London. Authored many books on the Talmud, the Torah, Hassidism and more.
The addressee, Rabbi Chacham Zvi Halberstam, the son of Rabbi Ya'akov Halberstam the Rebbe and Av Beit Din of Tschakava. His mother, the Rebbetzen Eidel Chana the daughter of the Rebbe Rabbi Shalom of Schotz died when he was only twelve years old. He was killed with his son in a car crash on their way to baking Matzah.
