Manuscript – Sefer Haftarot – Yemen – the 18th Century – Many Textual and Grammatical Comments
Manuscript of a book of Haftarot. Yemen, circa the 19th century.
Ancient Yemen script, vowelized and with cantillation notes.
The manuscript was most likely written for a Ba'al Koreh since, unlike other Yemen manuscripts of Haftarot, this manuscript contains only the Hebrew verses of the Haftarot without their translation.
Except for the manuscript being an ancient one, it is unique in that on its margins, many comments were written, some of them long with important content relating to the versions of the words, their vowelization and cantillation notes. There is also reference to the customs of reading the Haftarot.
At the end of the manuscript, the blessings of the Haftara.
Circa 100 leaves. 17x23 cm.
Condition: Good-Bad. Much moth damage, most of it on the margins not on the text. Stains. New binding.
