Manuscript Siddur Ha'Shela – Kri'at Shma al Ha'Mitah and Seder Kabbalat Shabbat – the 19th Century
An early copying of prayers from the "Sha'ar ha'Shamayim" Siddue by the Shela. Europe, the 18th century/early 19th century. Nice, orderly script. Different scripts of the prayers and the commentaries around them.
Before us is Seder Kri'at Shema (the first leaves are missing. The first page is page 153 of the first edition, Amsterdam 1717), the Ramban's prayer and the complete "Seder Kabbalat Shabbat". Around the prayers – who were edited by the author of the Shela according to the kabbalists – appear his commentaries, comments and collection of laws.
On one of the leaves appears the inscription "158" (in its Hebrew Gimatriya) and indeed it matches leaf 158 of the first edition of the Siddur (Amsterdam 1717), thus, the manuscript before us is a copying of a printed version not a manuscript.
However, the manuscript before us is most significant since there are many textual variations between the copies of the first edition. When we compared the manuscript before us to other copies of the Siddur, we noticed certain changes, which might assist in the research of the accurate version of the original composition.
On the margins of the pages, lingual glosses matching the printed version.
11 leaves. 17x21.5 cm.
Condition: Good. Wear and time stains. The margins of the leaves are torn. Moth signs on the inner margins of the leaves with no damage to text. Some of the leaves are completely detached while others are still connected by an ancient thread.
