The miniature Torah Scroll of the King of Israel
The King of Israel is commanded to write himself a Torah Scroll which must be with him at all times. Some say that the Mitzvah is actually to write only the Ten Commandments. Maimonides, following the Mishnah, claims that the meaning is to write an actual Torah Scroll. The Maharshal explains that it should be a small Torah Scroll.
The Torah Scroll before us is such a scroll, to which have been added impressive Atzei Chaim and a beautiful mantle.
