Ohel David - Rabbi David Deutsch - Wein, 1822 - First Edition - Additions and Novellae Handwritten by the Author
Ohel David, novellae on different tractates by Rabbi David Deutsch Av Beit Din of Ir Chadash [Nowe Miasto]. Wein, 1822. First edition.
The book contains seventeen [!] passages of novellae added to what is printed in the book as well as glosses and corrections handwritten by the author, as indicated by their content and script.
Rabbi David Deutsch (1756-1831) was the grandson of Rabbi Mordechai Deutsch author of "Mor Dror", a disciple of the Maharam Barabi in Pressburg and the Nodah Bi'Yehuda in Prague. The Nodah Bi'Yehuda was most fond of him, as indicated by his many responses to him which appear in his book. In one of these responses, he wrote: "if not for my love, it is not in my habit to respond on such matters, however the extent of my love has made me do so my beloved disciple".
He served as Av Beit Din of Jamnitz, Frauenkirchen and Dunajská Streda. From 1810 until his death, he served as Rabbi of Nowe Miasto.
He exchanged a prolific halachic correspondence with the leading Torah figures of his times, such as the Nodah Bi'Yehuda, the Chatam Sofer and the author of Yismach Moshe and was admired by all the rabbis of his generation.

The Chatam Sofer wrote an approbation on his book: "That tsaddik, holy Jew, genius… I have seen in it (the book) wonderful things…We are privileged to merit his words and his light…his merit should protect us from all harm".
After Rabbi Deutsch's death, notes by the Chatam Sofer were found with requests that he pray for the Chatam Sofer and the members of his family.
The friendship between the Chatam Sofer and Rabbi Deutsch started in their youth. When the Chatam Sofer travelled with his rabbi, Rabbi Natan Adler, to Prague, they stayed at the Beit Midrash of the Noda Bi'Yehuda. Rabbi David Deutsch was then a young man (he was one year older than the Chatam Sofer). Rabbi Natan Adler told the Chatam Sofer: "You see, I like this young man" and pointed at Rabbi David Deutsch. When the Chatam Sofer heard his Rabbi's words, he knew these words were not said in vain and he became Rabbi Deutsch's friend.
Author of the books "Ohel David" which were printed in his life and were given free of charge to Torah scholars. Therefore, Rabbi David himself was quite poor. It is told that once he came to Pressburg to visit his friend the Chatam Sofer, wearing torn clothes. The Chatam Sofer asked him if he didn't have other clothes. Rabbi Deutsch answered that they were even more torn the ones he was wearing…

On the title page, an inscription "To Beit Midrash of the Shidladi community" maybe handwritten by the author himself. In addition, ownership stamps of Rabbi "Avraham Chanoch … of the community of Arta Satmar…" In addition, the stamp of the Rebbe Rabbi Yochanan Sofer of Erlau.
