Interesting letter from the Rishon L'Tzion Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, 1951, when he was a member of the beit din in Petach Tikvah
Letter printed by stencil, filled in by hand and signed, when Rabbi Yosef served as a dayan in the Petach Tikvah regional beit din, after immigrating from Egypt when he was 30 years old. Rabbi Ovadya Yosef commits himself to work exclusively in the rabbinical beit din in Petach Tikvah. The letter is dated 1951.
"I, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, member of the beit din in Petach Tikvah, hereby declare that I resign from all other rabbinical tasks that I fill and I will not work in any other job...other than a judge on the beit din..." The Rabbi filled in the blank spaces by hand. His signature appears in the margins.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was one of the greatest poskim of the recent generation. He was the Rishon L'Tzion and nasi of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah. He revived the glory of Sephardic Jewry through his giant operations and the dissemination of Torah and lectures throughout the country. He authored Yabia Omer, Yechava Da'as, Meor Yisrael and more.
