Nedarim. Munich, 1946. The First Tractate Printed After the Holocaust

Tractate Nedarim of the Babylonian Talmud. Published by the Va'ad Agudat Rabbanim in the American sector of Germany, with the assistance of the Va'ad Hatzalah. Munich St. Ottilien, 1946. The first tractate of the Talmud printed for the She'erit HaPleita in Germany.

The title page is illustrated with pictures from the concentration camps "The work shack in which we sat, learned and prayed in secret". The publisher writes in his introduction: "After our spirit has slightly returned to us. As soon as we were liberated, the lack of books for the People of the Book was immediately felt, the evil ones who destroyed and burned the Jews of Europe tried not to leave any Jewish book and that the Jew should be burned wrapped up in the Torah scroll. One who was found with a prayer book, Tefillin or any other book was in danger of death... all Jewish books were taken to be used as paper or for some other disgraceful use... the study houses are empty of books to learn from or to teach the public from...this is what led us to print various tractates to be studied from...and we only have tractates Kiddushin and Nedarim in one volume, almost new, and we decided to copy these tractates and to print them and distribute them among the She'irit HaPleita in the German exile...".

Three years later, in 1949, the entire Talmud was printed in one 19-volume edition in Munich, with title pages illustrated with a different illustration that the first edition before us.

Various inscriptions from the time of print "Belongs to the She'erit HaPleita Yeshiva" and more.
