"HaEshkol." Halberstat, 1868-1869. First edition
Sefer HaEshkol by R' Avraham b"r Yitzchak of Narbonne. With the expansive "Nachal Eshkol" commentary by Rabbi Zvi Binyamin Auerbach. Halberstadt, 1868-1869. First edition. Three sections in one volume. Owner notation on title page.
Section one. 1868. 158, XXIII pages.
Section two: 1868. [2] 192 pages
Section three: 1869. [3], 179 pages. 25 cm.
Each section has title pages in Hebrew and a foreign language. This edition of Sefer HaEshkol was the source of a broad polemic. Many people contested this edition and over the years many works and articles were printed both for and against it, primarily in regards to the ideas included in the preface. There are those who maintain that additional ideas were inserted over the generations, but they were added during a very early era, during the times of the "Rishonim."
Bent cardboard binding. Aging stains and dampstains.
Moderate condition.
