Magnificent writing case. Sculpted olive wood set with wood and etchings. Holy sites in the Holy Land. [Palestine, end of the 19th century].

The writing case consists of two sections: A writing box and pencil case. The pencil case includes designated comparments: ie. compartment for a brush, stamp etc. The pencil case has a cover with a lock mechanism (missing the key). The cover feaures a nicely sculpted illustration of the Cave of Machpelah with flowers and leaves at its sides. They are bordered by small inset red and black pieces of wood. The writing box has a sloped cover that opens to a padded writing surface. The inner section of the surface is raised and it stands above a large storage compartment. The back panel of the storage comparnet has two small drawers.
The cover of the writing box depicts sculpted tombs of the Kings of the Davidian dynasty and floral decorations, bordered by small inset sall pieces of various colored wood, with a pattern of stars of David. At the top of the cover is the etched text ירושלם and Jerusalem.

The right panel bears a sculpted Western Wall [with the text: כתל מערבי on the bottom. The left panel features the Temple Mount [with the text: מקום המקדש].

Length: 35 cm. Width: 29 cm. Maximal height: 12 cm.

Crack along the left corner of the writing case.
