Ownership deed of the Mann Family of a house in the Old City
Two deeds that attest to the ownership of the Mann Family of a house in the Old City of Jerusalem.
Rabbi Chaim Mann (1867-1944), the son of Rabbi Ya'akov Mann, who was among the first builders of the new Jerusalem, a Torah scholar who chose to be a contractor and build the Holy City. Rabbi Chaim was the head melamed at 'Etz Chaim' Talmud Torah and the founder of 'The Union of Melamdim' in Jerusalem, which took care of the financial rights and physical conditions of all the melamdim of the city. He lived in the Old City until he died and was buried in the Mount of Olives. On his tombstone, Rabbi Issar Zalman Meltzer ordered to write: "One of the greatest teachers of our days".
When he died, Rabbi Mann left his sons his house in Bab-el-Halil neighborhood – the Arabic name for Jaffa gate - which notes the neighborhood known today as the Armenian Quarter.
The two deeds before us attest to it that the house was left and its ownership transferred from the Rabbi to his two sons, Rabbi Yehuda Leib Mann, the secretary of 'Etz Chaim' Talmud Torah, and his brother, Zvi Mann.
The deeds specify the neighbors on three directions, the real estate's type and its value – 600 Palestine pounds.
The deeds are filled by hand from 29/1/1946 – two years after Rabbi Mann's death and signed by the land registrar and the office of land register in Jerusalem.
Condition: Very good. Folding marks.
